Know the applications of VITON / FKM/ FPM o-rings and FEP/PFA SILICONE VMQ o-rings

VITON / FKM/ FPM o-rings are acknowledged for their outstanding resistance to high temperatures and many solvents. They have great resistance to ozone, oxygen, weather, mineral oil, hydraulic fluids, fuels, and aromatics, as well. This feature makes them occupy a vital position in a huge range of applications. Among them, these rings are largely used in automotive fuel handling systems as well as for sealing aircraft engines.

The other uses of these o-rings include low compression set and high temperature applications. They naturally have wide exposure to almost all types of chemicals as well as in hard vacuum service situations. They will work well with the basic service temperature that ranges from -20°C to 205°C with the maximum short temperature periods of 230°C.

VITON / FKM/ FPM o-rings are available in several diverse types and Shore Hardness. Some of the four common types of these o-rings used in different applications include Type A, Type B, Type F, and Type ETP.

Type A o-rings are available with the shore hardness of V75 and V90. They are usually available in different colors, such as black, green, and brown.

Type B o-rings are mostly used in Power Utility Seals, Chemical Process plants, and Gaskets.

When considering the application of Type F o-rings, they are generally used for concentrated aqueous inorganic acids, Oxygenated Automotive fuels, steam, and water.

Type ETP o-rings have excellent resistance to chemicals and offer greater performance when compared to other standard compounds. They are largely used in High pH lubricants, Coolants, and greases.

VITON / FKM/ FPM o-rings are designed to meet the necessities of FDA CFR title 21. Most manufacturers of these o-rings publish a comprehensive data sheet of these rings on their official website. This makes shoppers choose the right o-ring according to their specifications and needs easily. They are designed to have a low compression set, low gas permeability, and good mechanical properties.

FEP/PFA SILICONE VMQ o-rings consist of an elastomer core, which is encapsulated seamlessly in a Teflon fluroropolymer jacket. The core of these o-rings will be Silicone and their jacket will be FEP. These o-rings are also available with a PFA jacket. They are also available in different Cross Sections, ranging from 1.78mm to 25.4mm.

High fluorine grades of these o-rings are capable of offering higher resistance to bulge in high octane as well as oxygenated fuel mixes. This makes them offer the best performance in Methanol / Ethanol blended gasoline.

These encapsulated o-rings are a suitable substitute when a normal o-ring has insufficient chemical resistance to chemicals for an application. Besides offering outstanding resistance to an extensive variety of chemicals, these o-rings are compatible to use in different ranges of temperature including from -60°C to +200°C with Silicone core and from -20°C to +200°C with Viton core.

The unique beneficial feature of VITON / FKM/ FPM o-rings is that they are capable of providing low abrasion and low stick and skid effect. This means that they can offer additional abrasion resistance and offer the best performance in a -60°C to +260°C temperature range when combined with the Silicone core.
